CRITICALLY IMPORTANT REMINDERS REGARDING BURNING:

1. Call before you burn! Call (830) 868-7104 to give the Sheriff's Department a heads up.

2. Have water and shovels nearby.

3. Never start a fire with strong or gusty winds. Even a small breeze can carry sparks that can start more fires.

4. No night burning. Fires must be out by dark.

5. Never leave a fire unattended.

OUR MISSION: We provide fire, rescue and first responder services under contract to North Blanco County Emergency Services District (ESD 1), who provides tax supported revenue to us.

ORGANIZATION: We are an IRS 501-c-3 tax exempt, non-profit, all volunteer organization. We have an elected 4 member Board of Directors from within the membership. The Fire Chief reports to this Board, and is in charge of Operations. Logo

MEMBERSHIP: We have 24 members. All of our fire personnel are volunteers. We have a very active group on non-fire volunteers who assist with the administrative needs of this organization.

MEETINGS: We meet on each Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the Fire Station. Training on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesdays, and Business Meeting on the 4th Wednesday.

LOCATIONS: We have a single location, which houses our fire apparatus, administrative offices, day/night staff crew quarters, and training center. We are based in Johnson City, the birthplace and hometown of President Lyndon Baines Johnson. We are located in the heart of the Central Texas Hill Country, and are approximately 50 miles west of Austin, our State Capitol.

For background information on our area, see the Hill Country Portal website for profiles on Johnson City and Blanco County, Crisis Hotlines, along with other relevant topics about our area in their menu.

EMERGENCY SERVICE DISTRICT: Emergency service districts (ESDs) are political subdivisions that can provide fire protection, emergency medical services or both, according to the Texas State Association of Fire and Emergency Districts. ESD's are governed by five commissioners who are appointed by the county commissioners court. ESDs are funded through property taxes and can also collect sales tax. They can provide such services directly or via contractual agreements with other organizations.

Johnson City VFD is a non-profit, volunteer entity under contract with ESD 1 (https://www.nbcesd1.org) in Blanco County to provide fire protections and related rescue services. Likewise, North Blanco County EMS (https://northblancocountyems.org) is a non-profit entity under contract with ESD 1, as is Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (https://rmvfd.org), all of whom are located in northern Blanco County. Fire and EMS services in southern Blanco County are under contract with ESD 2.

JCVFD serves about 6,300 people in about a 600-square-mile area in the northern half of Blanco County. JCVFD responds to about 400 calls a year including fires, rescues, traffic injuries and other call types.

VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED - FIRE/RESCUE & ADMIN PERSONNEL:

We are always interested in having more fire/rescue and administrative staff join our volunteer department.

We provide training and encouragement. Come join us !

Even if you don't want to fight fires or rescue your neighbors, you can help with all kinds of support tasks at the station and in the community.

We are a fun group. Enjoy the camaraderie. Learn as go. Give something back to your town.

Our "Auxiliary Fire Corps" volunteer group is very active in supporting all of our operations, and is especially needed and loved during live events. They typically manage the hydration and food for our volunteer firefighters, and provide related administrative and logistical assistance as well.
